The McCusker Directors toured the new state-of-the-art retinal eye clinic at the Lions Eye Institute (LEI) on August 31, 2017. LEI Managing Director, Professor David Mackey said he was delighted to show the Directors through the recently renovated clinic, which offers Western Australian patients access to the highest level of care for eye diseases and disorders. The expanded clinic is also allowing the LEI to run larger numbers of Clinical Trials, ensuring patients have access to the very latest in medical therapies, treatments and devices.
The Hon Malcolm McCusker presented Professor Mackey with a donation of $150,000 x 3yrs to fund Dr Fred Chen and $150,000 x 2 yrs to fund Dr Angus Turner.
McCusker Director, Dr Angus Turner leads the Lions Outback Vision team and Dr Fred Chen heads up the Ocular Tissue Engineering Research Centre at LEI.
The Directors also toured the McCusker Glaucoma Centre – a glaucoma research centre first established with support from Sir James McCusker more than 20 years ago. The enduring relationship between the McCusker Foundation and the LEI demonstrates a commitment to finding new treatments for eye disease and providing access to the best possible eye care for the people of Western Australia.
Professor Mackey thanked the McCusker Charitable Foundation for its great support of the LEI over many years.
